Key traffic rules

Eligibility

No driving licence required. Riders under 16 are prohibited, as is lending to anyone under 16 (penalties apply).

Helmet

Wearing a helmet is encouraged. We ask all riders to wear the helmet we provide (free of charge).

Where to ride

Ride on the left edge of the road or in cycle lanes. Only in walk mode (max 6km/h, green light blinking) may you use sidewalks where bicycles are allowed.

Speed limit

Up to 20km/h in road mode and 6km/h in walk mode. The mode is shown by the vehicle’s indicator light.

No drink-riding

Never ride after drinking. Providing alcohol, riding along, or lending the vehicle are also subject to penalties.

No two riders

Two-up riding is prohibited. One rider per vehicle.

Signals and stops

Obey signals, signs and stop lines. Some intersections require a two-stage right turn.

Lights and reflectors

Use the light at night. Vehicles and reflectors meet safety standards.
